Background

With ever-increasing need for the development of energy efficient systems, study of Thermal Sciences has gained perennial importance. This M.Tech. programme offered by the Mechanical Engineering Department of National Institute of Technology Calicut is designed to equip the mechanical engineers with latest know-how of current trends related to this field in research and industry. The course content includes adequate amount of theoretical aspects reinforced with practical problem solving capability. Exposure to the latest equipment and software packages are the added advantage.

The M.Tech. programme in Thermal Sciences includes various aspects of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer and combustion related to classical and practical engineering problems. The total course duration of 2 years is spread over 4 semesters. The curriculum also contains a major dissertation work, spread over the last two semesters, during which the students undertake research work pertaining to current engineering problems under the guidance of a set of highly experienced faculty members.
