About the Laboratory

The Green Energy laboratory at NIT Calicut caters primarily to the need of measurement of properties of fuels, lubricants and other materials used in the Energy industry, with special focus on eco-friendly materials such as biofuels. The lab was setup in 2013-16 with Rs. 3,819,595/- funding. The facilities are mainly used for research and consultancy purposes.

Major Equipment

Pic 02

Gas Chromatograph with Flame-ionization detection (FID)

Make and Model: SAKS GC HR 1500

It is used to separate and detect the components of Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAME) present in biodiesel. FID is used to detect the amount of carbon in a sample of FAME.

Pic 02

Moisture Content Analyzer for Liquid Samples

Make and model: Metrohm AG , 870 KF Titrino Plus

KF titration is used for volumetric water content determination. Water contents from a few ppm to 100% can be determined in solid, liquid and gaseous samples.

Cold Filter Plugging Point Apparatus

Make and Model: EIE Instruments Pvt. Ltd , EIE-PTLT-124

It is used to determine the low temperature flow characteristics of automotive diesel fuels and gas oils, including samples with flow improving additives .
